Pedestrian standing on I-75 killed in hit-and-run accident

A 41-year-old man who was standing on Interstate 75 in Marion County this morning was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene.

The fatal accident took place at around 4:45 a.m. and led to the closure of multiple lanes of the highway for several hours.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on I-75, in the right lane near the area of mile marker 342.

For unknown reasons, the 41-year-old man from Clearwater was standing in the right lane of the roadway.

As a result, the man was struck by the unknown vehicle.

After the impact, the vehicle fled the scene.

No additional details were provided by FHP, and the crash is currently under investigation.

Less than an hour before the fatal accident involving the pedestrian, another accident involving multiple vehicles occurred near mile marker 341 of the highway.
