Stop signs to replace traffic signals at two Ocala intersections

The City of Ocala Engineering Department will soon begin a change in traffic control on SE 3rd Street, at the intersections of S Magnolia Avenue and SE 1st Avenue.

Both intersections are currently controlled by traffic signals. According to the city, a recent traffic study determined that the signals at these intersections are no longer warranted.

The new stop controls will be as follows:

  • All-way stop control for S Magnolia Avenue at SE 3rd Street.
  • All-way stop control for SE 1st Avenue at SE 3rd Street.

The traffic signal removal process will begin on Thursday, May 11. As part of that process, the signals will be in flash mode, and all-way stop signs will be added to all approaches.

Message boards and necessary devices will be in place to notify drivers of the new traffic pattern.
