Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks briefly placed on lockdown

School officials and local law enforcement officers briefly placed Horizon Academy at Marion Oaks on lockdown Tuesday morning due to an unspecified incident.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a “large police presence” responded to Horizon Academy (365 Marion Oaks Drive in Ocala) in the morning hours, and the school was temporarily locked down.

MCSO deputies then proceeded to check the campus to ensure that there were no threats to the students and staff.

At 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, MCSO stated in a social media post that deputies have not located any threat to the safety of students and staff at the school. In addition, there were no injuries reported.

Shortly after 12 p.m., the sheriff’s office advised that Horizon Academy has been cleared to reopen. MCSO units did not locate any threat to the safety of the school’s students and staff.

No further details were provided by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office regarding the “call for service” that prompted the lockdown.
