Marion County officials are currently investigating a district-wide threat that was made on social media to multiple schools.
On Thursday morning, Marion County Public Schools stated in a Facebook post that local law enforcement officers have launched an investigation, and they believe at this time that the threat poses no immediate danger.
The school district added that it will continue to monitor the situation, and MCPS is “working with law enforcement to catch the person responsible for this disruption.”
Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Ocala Police Department both stated that they are investigating “a very broad, social media threat.” As a result, the law-enforcement presence at the schools has been increased.
No further details were provided by the school district or law enforcement.
In the event that updates are necessary, MCPS stated that more information will be shared via Skylert messaging and on social media.
