One person was killed, and another was seriously injured, after their SUV veered off the roadway and struck a tree in Marion County on Wednesday morning.
At around 10:20 a.m., a 25-year-old man (driver) and 67-year-old woman (passenger), both from Ocklawaha, were traveling northbound in the SUV on SE 182nd Avenue Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that when the SUV was to the north of the SE 127th Street Road intersection, the vehicle exited the west side of the roadway and traveled across the grass shoulder before crashing into a barbed wire fence.
After the initial impact, the SUV continued traveling until its front section struck a tree.
The driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The passenger sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue personnel.
In the report, a trooper noted that the two occupants of the SUV were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Their names were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
