Winery closes in downtown Ocala after decade in business

A winery that closed its doors in downtown Ocala after a decade in business joins another similar business that closed up shop this summer.

Corkscrew has closed its location at 16 SW Broadway Street, according to state records and the company’s online business profiles.

Known for its wine tastings and classes, the winery and brewery opened its doors in 2012 and regularly hosted live music and themed events.

An email to the company’s main email account was not replied to prior to the publication of this story.

With its closure, Corkscrew becomes part of a changing landscape in downtown Ocala this summer, with the openings and closures of several businesses throughout the area.

The Keep Downtown, another establishment that primarily sold wine and ales, shut down in late July after multiple decades in business dating back to its previous ownership and name (Ocala Wine Experience).

Mellow Mushroom recently added exterior signage to its building at 2 SW Fort King Street. In late September, Benmar Construction announced that it is nearing completion on the new pizzeria.

Katya Vineyards is working on a new location at 11 E Silver Springs Boulevard, replacing Morevino.

Symmetry Cafe moved from its previous spot into Katya Vineyard’s old location at 101 E Silver Springs Boulevard in early October.

Ole Sarah’s, a shop that sells locally-produced, handmade apparel and home goods, celebrated its grand opening at 108 E Fort King in downtown Ocala in August.
