Over 1 million gallons of public reuse water spills in Ocala

The City of Ocala Water Resources Department experienced a spill of public access reuse water on Monday, which has been contained.

The spill occurred at the Ocala Wetland Recharge Park located 2205 NW 21st Street, and it involved approximately 1.5 million gallons of public access reuse water.

In a press release, the city stated that the water involved in the spill has been treated and presents no danger to the public or surrounding area.

According to the city, the spill was caused when a sinkhole formed in Wetland Cell 1, which is slated for repair.

The city further stated in the press release that the sinkhole, referred to as a “subsurface subsidence,” is an anticipated component of the park due to the karst topography below ground, and it presents no danger to the public or the environment.
