A singer from Ocala made it past the biggest cut in American Idol history last night and is now one round away from becoming one of the show’s final 24 contestants.
Emery Robbins, who earned a golden ticket during his audition for the show, made it through the first round of cuts during “Hollywood Week” on Sunday.
In last night’s episode, judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Perry reduced the field from 143 singers to 56. During the broadcast, the judges and host Ryan Seacrest all suggested the cut was the “biggest in Idol history.”
For his performance on Sunday, Robbins sang “You Look So Good In Love” by George Strait. Although the full performance did not make the final edit of the show, Robbins can be seen in the audience and on the stage throughout the episode.
The young performing artist shared a photo from the experience yesterday evening through social media, thanking the community for their support.
“Thankful and grateful for this experience and for all the prayers and support,” said Robbins in a social media post.
Now, the Ocala singer will compete to make it past the second and final set of judge’s cuts, which will reduce the field to 24 contestants.
Tune in to the next episode of American Idol on ABC tonight, Monday, April 1, at 8 p.m. to see if Emery Robbins advances.
