To the Editor:
In reference to the deputy that caused the death of a bicyclist. The only consequence of his gross infraction of the law is a speeding ticket. He had no lights or siren, was going almost double the speed limit and was not responding to an emergency call. He took the life of a citizen and gets a slap on the hand.
If that had been anyone other than a police officer, they would have been charged with involuntary manslaughter. PERIOD. This is the responsibility of the prosecutor’s office. The whole system is corrupt. If you are not a member of the police association, you are treated completely differently than if you were. It’s just ANOTHER case of police officers ARE above the law.
