The world’s “only motorized banana” will be in the Ocala area for the weekend, offering photos and rides to residents in exchange for donations.
The Big Banana Car will be stationed opposite the Silver Springs Park entrance, at the Rodeway Inn (5751 E Silver Springs Blvd) on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Owned and operated by Steve Braithwaite, the car was built by Braithwaite and a close group of friends over a 2.5-year period beginning in 2009.
The vehicle has been on the road since 2011 and has traveled all across the country.
“Take a ride, pay what works for you, bring car seats if legally required, and bring your own banana to eat as we drive,” reads a social media post from the car’s Facebook page.
Over the past several weeks, the car has been doling out rides throughout the Sunshine State, including stops in Key West, Plant City, and Auburndale.
