Marion County Fire Rescue officially broke ground on a new fire station in Citra on Friday morning.
Located at 2189 NE 180th Lane in Citra, MCFR Station 2 in Citra will replace the current fire station that is situated on the same property.
According to MCFR, the new station will have a larger capacity while providing a healthy work environment for firefighters. This, in turn, will help the firefighters better serve the growing community of Citra.
The fire station will have three bays in its 4,386-square-foot apparatus bay to store vehicles and equipment, along with over 3,700 square feet of living quarters.
In addition, the facility will include a “Safe Haven Baby Box,” so anyone who wishes to surrender a baby (up to seven days after birth) can do so to ensure the child’s safety without repercussions.
