Ocala restaurant cites food shortages in early closure

A Boston Market in Ocala temporarily closed its doors on Sunday due to food shortages that have plagued its sales in recent weeks.

The fast-casual chain posted two signs on its local restaurant, located at 2650 SW College Road, on Sunday, regarding the closure.

“Due to supply chain shortages, we only have a limited menu for today. Please ask our team for availability of products,” reads one sign.

Next to it, another sign indicated that the business was closed as a result of the shortages:

In social media posts and reviews of the local restaurant, customers have been reporting shortages and changes to classic ingredients for weeks. That includes the macaroni and cheese, which is generally made with spiral noodles. In recent weeks, customers have reported it being made with different noodles.

“The mac n cheese is not their regular noodles…what’s going on at this location,” reads one Google review posted in the past week.

“They don’t have their spiral cheesy mac n cheese anymore, it’s regular dry mac n cheese,” reads another review.

In the past several years, dozens of Boston Market locations have been closed. Although the business maintained over 1,200 locations across the United States at one point, there are currently only 310 locations in operation.

According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the license for Boston Market #763 on SR 200 expired on June 1, 2023 and the business is currently classified as “delinquent.”

No additional information was provided on when the business would reopen.
