Driver killed after being ejected from SUV in single-vehicle crash in Levy County

A 45-year-old man from Live Oak who was not wearing a seatbelt was killed on Thursday evening after he was ejected from his SUV in a single-vehicle crash in Levy County.

The accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was traveling northbound on State Road 339 in the northbound lane.

When the driver was within several hundred feet of NE 150th Street, the vehicle veered off the roadway and onto the east grass shoulder. The FHP report indicated that the driver overcorrected to the left, which caused the vehicle to veer left across the northbound lane and into the southbound lane of State Road 339.

The driver turned the steering wheel sharply to the right and the vehicle began to rotate clockwise before overturning onto its left side. As the vehicle overturned, it traveled in a northerly direction before coming to a final rest facing northeast. Both the northbound and southbound lanes of State Road 339 were blocked.

FHP investigated the crash and discovered that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, which caused him to become fully ejected from the vehicle once it started overturning. The driver was located in the southbound lanes of State Road 339, south of the vehicle, and he was pronounced deceased on the scene by a Levy County Fire Rescue paramedic at 6:27 p.m.

The name of the driver was not released by FHP.
