An elderly landlord was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after she was accused of breaking into a male tenant’s home and attempting to remove his girlfriend from the property.
On Tuesday, an MCSO corporal responded to a residence on SW 27th Street in Ocala. According to the arrest report, the victim and landlord had both called the sheriff’s office to report an altercation that had occurred at the home.
The landlord was identified in the report as 73-year-old Loraine Dawn Snyder.
Shortly after the corporal arrived at the incident location, contact was made with Snyder. She claimed that a trespasser (the victim) was inside the home. The corporal noted that the victim was the girlfriend of a current tenant and had been staying at the residence for several weeks.
The report stated that Snyder was initially “accepting” of the victim temporarily staying at the tenant’s home, though Snyder was under the impression that the victim would look for another place to live.
While speaking with the corporal, Snyder pulled back her hair to show a lump on her forehead that was allegedly caused by the victim during the altercation.
The victim soon exited the home and made contact with the corporal. She advised that she was at the home by herself when Snyder arrived and began knocking on the door, telling the victim that she “needed to unlock the door and leave the property,” according to the report.
Instead of unlocking the door, the victim stated that she called her boyfriend who told her to “just ignore (Snyder) in hopes that she would go away.” The report stated that Snyder soon found an unlocked window and crawled through it to gain entry into the home.
Snyder then allegedly grabbed the victim and attempted to drag her out of the house. The victim advised that she managed to separate herself from Snyder, and she gave Snyder multiple warnings to keep her hands to herself, according to the report.
Moments later, the victim stated that Snyder proceeded to push her, and she pushed back. The altercation soon came to an end without further incident. In the report, the corporal noted that the victim provided videos showing Snyder entering the home through a window and telling the victim that she would be “leaving against her choosing.”
While speaking with law enforcement, Snyder admitted to entering the tenant’s home through the unlocked window. She further admitted that the altercation occurred when she tried to get the victim to leave the residence, according to the report.
The corporal noted that Snyder was “unaware of landlord tenant laws and did not know that a tenant of hers can have any guest of (their) choosing.” According to the corporal’s notes, Snyder was further unaware that she was not allowed to make entry into the home any time she wished without proper notification and having a legitimate reason to do so.
Snyder was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where she is currently being held without bond. She is being charged with burglary with assault or battery (felony) and battery – touch or strike (misdemeanor).
A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
