80-year-old woman seriously injured in car crash in Marion County

An 80-year-old woman was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Marion County.

Velma L. Coan-Reynolds, 80, of Silver Springs was driving a 2015 Honda east on State Road 40 when she veered into the oncoming westbound lanes due to a possible medical episode, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Coan-Reynolds’ vehicle struck a 2012 Dodge Journey occupied by driver John Green, 65, of La Plata, Mo. and his wife Marilyn, 62, the report stated. The collision caused Green’s vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its roof across the westbound lane of SR 40, the report stated.

Coan-Reynolds then struck a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by 35-year-old Shannon Dean of Deltona, causing the Camry to come to rest on the north shoulder of SR 40 West. The Silver Spring resident’s vehicle continued eastward coming to rest on the south shoulder of SR 40 East, the report noted.

Coan-Reynolds was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center having suffered serious injuries. The Greens and Dean were also transported to ORMC having suffered minor injuries.

Two other passengers, Kayla Proctor, 21, of Deltona and Payton Currier, 6, of Deltona were both in Dean’s vehicle and were transported to ORMC for minor injuries.
