A Clermont man was arrested Tuesday morning after causing a crash on the Florida Turnpike.
Daniele Heller, 20, of Clermont was driving a 2013 Nissan 370z southbound on the turnpike at a high rate of speed, while Carlos Guivas, 60, of Deltona was driving a garbage truck ahead of Heller, according to a Florida Highway Patrol arrest report. According to witnesses, Heller attempted to pass on the left shoulder, but lost control and hit the center barrier wall, the report stated. Heller then redirected back into the southbound lanes and collided with the garbage truck.
Prior to the crash, a trooper clocked the speed of Heller’s vehicle, which was traveling at 132 mph. Heller was apparently racing another smaller red vehicle prior to the crash. He was treated for minor injuries at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Heller was arrested for reckless driving and booked at the Orange County Jail.
