A 70-year-old Ocala man and a 28-year-old Leesburg woman were killed Sunday in a head-on collision on U.S. Hwy. 441 that left three others critically injured.
The crash took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. when a northbound SUV driven by the Leesburg woman crossed over the center median and struck a sedan driven by a 61-year-old Ocala woman, a Florida Highway Patrol report states. The SUV came to rest on the west shoulder facing east, while the sedan ended up in the southbound outside lane facing in a southwest direction.
The Ocala man, a passenger in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The Leesburg woman was pronounced dead at Ocala Regional Medical Center, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
Two children in the SUV – a 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy – both of Leesburg were critically injured, as was the driver of the sedan, a 61-year-old Ocala woman. The crash remains under investigation, the FHP report says.
