The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has identified the mother and son who were killed in an apparent murder-suicide at a residence in southwest Ocala on Monday evening.
According to MCSO, the bodies of 57-year-old Kathleen Mary Callahan and 26-year-old Birch Longfellow Crocker were discovered inside a residence located in the 16100 block of SW 20th Lane in Ocala.
Deputies responded to the residence in reference to a well-being check. When they arrived at the scene, they canvased the exterior of the property and noticed through a window on the northwest side of the residence that a woman appeared to be lying near a pool of blood.
After entering the home, deputies located the bodies of Callahan and Crocker. According to the MCSO incident report, a firearm was observed beside Crocker’s body.
In addition, the report stated that two notes from the decedents, their driver’s licenses, and unpaid bills were observed on a folding table near the entrance.
Detectives arrived on scene to investigate the suspicious deaths, and they ultimately determined that this incident was a murder-suicide.
In a social media post, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated that this incident is not connected to the double homicide that occurred in the Whispering Sands neighborhood in southeast Ocala on Sunday, October 14.
